R. Kelly, an R&B singer, has been in trouble for a long time. He was given 30 years in prison on Wednesday for luring and catching teens and women for sex.
In a federal court in Brooklyn, New York, Judge Ann Donnelly gave Kelly's sentence almost a year after a jury in New York found the 55-year-old guilty.
In a tweet, the office of the US attorney for the Eastern District of New York said, "The verdict is in: R. Kelly got 30 years."
The prosecutors asked the court to put the "I Believe I Can Fly" singer in jail for at least 25 years, saying that he still "poses a serious danger to the public."
In September, the fallen superstar was found guilty of all nine charges he was facing, including the most serious one of racketeering.
"What he did was brave, sneaky, controlling, and forceful."
"He hasn't shown any regret or respect for the law," prosecutors wrote in their sentencing memo.
Kelly's lawyers asked for a sentence of no more than 17 years, which would be shorter.
The sentence comes a little more than a month before Kelly's separate, long-delayed federal trial in Chicago is set to begin on August 15.
In that case, it is said that Kelly and two of his former friends rigged his 2008 pornography trial and hid years of sexual abuse of minors.
The musician who used to be the biggest name in R&B is also being looked into in two other states.
