The Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) is a regional organization founded via a public–private collaboration to assist Africa by offering finance solutions to fulfill the region's infrastructure requirements. AFC has created strategic agreements with other regional financial institutions that emphasize growth and the financial effect of their investments in order to fulfill its goal. AFC has a $2 billion investment portfolio with a track record of investing in climate change adaptation and mitigation projects that improve lives via renewable energy production (such as hydropower and wind), sustainable transport, and low-emissions projects, using equity and loans. AFC sought GCF accreditation in order to continue, through instruments such as loans, equity, and guarantees, to implement projects that address the region's infrastructure gaps while promoting low-emission and climate-resilient development pathways, leveraging its well-established partnerships and successful track record in Africa.
